Kathy and Mike returned to serve at Coolidge Baptist Church in November of 2007. They previously served the church as pastor and minister of music from 1983-1988.
Mike was ordained to the ministry in August of 1974. Mike grew up in Canton, Georgia, graduating from Cherokee County High School in 1972. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, 1977, and a Master’s of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, 1983. In 2003, Mike graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree. Mike has also completed Clinical Pastoral Education training, the State of Georgia’s Management Development Training Program, and earned a Certified Public Manager’s Certificate from the University of Georgia.
His experience is wide-ranging from pastoring several churches, to working in the Georgia State Prison System, to involvement in local and state political offices.
Mike and Kathy were married December 24, 1972, in Cairo, Georgia, where Kathy grew up. They have served in ministry together as pastor and minister of music throughout the years of their marriage.
Mike and Kathy have two sons, Michael and Matthew. Michael married Keumele Stewart in December of 2000, and they have a daughter, Carrie Elizabeth, and a son, Andrew Michael. Michael and his family live in Clayton, Georgia, where Michael teaches high school and Keumele is a stay-at-home mom.
Matthew married his high school sweetheart, Christina Matthews, in June of 2001, and they are now expecting their first child. Matthew serves with the Thomasville Police Department; Christina works with Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville as their GVTC (Georgia Virtual Technical College) Coordinator.
Kathy graduated from Cairo High School in 1972. She completed her Bachelor of Music Education degree at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, 1977; her Master of Church Music degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, 1983; her Education Specialist degree at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, 1996; and her Doctor of Education degree also from Valdosta State University in 2005. Kathy has worked with the Thomas County Board of Education since 1985 and serves as the bi-vocational music minister for Coolidge Baptist.
